With hundreds of thousands of apps in the Apple App Store, you'd be right to assume that there might be some related to our beloved companion animals. We thought we'd share a small selection of useful pet apps:

Heartgard Dose Reminder - FREE

It is critically important that your pet receive their Heartgard (or any other heartworm preventative) on a regular sschedule each month. A few days here or there might not make a difference, but the old "once a month" plan doesn't cut it if you give your pet their dose on the 5th one month and on the 25th the next. 51 days between doses instead of the recommended 30 is a good way for a pet "on heartworm preventatives" to get heartworms. This app will send you a push notification when your pet's dose is due, and it is FREE.

Dog Park Finder - FREE

Finding a place to bring your dog to have some fun is easy with the free Dog Park Finder app powered by the DogGoes.com database of over 2,500 dog parks. Using the built in GPS, it will display parks nearby and you can find out more information about each one such as whether it is a leashed or unleashed park, hours, notes and even user reviews! They also offer a premum app for a small fee, 15% of which goes to support Adopt-A-Pet.com

Pet Snap - $2.99

Love to take pictures of your pets? Well, we pet lovers know that pets are like children. Getting them to strike the perfect pose is impossible, but we can at least get their attention! This app has a number of sounds designed to get your pets attention right before you take a picture. You can even send the picture in e-mail or upload to Facebook right from the application.

Cat Training - $0.99

Believe it or not, cats are indeed trainable. With patience and this handy app, you too will have a cat that can cook you breakfast in the morning. Ok, perhaps not, but considering that the number one reason cats are given up is for behavioral problems, this might be worth a try first!

Cat Guide - $0.99

Chances are, if you own a dog, you have a good idea of what breed it is or what type the breed of it's parents (If not, and you want to know, call us -- we can do breed testing!). If you have a cat however, you most likely have no idea. This app will teach you the differences between 46 different breeds, including size, activity level, behavioral traits and more.
